The history of a solar innovator
1969: Start up as Texas Instruments’ first Italian production facility
1977: The Italian plant pioneers the development of DRAM memories
1982: Invention of the first DIMM memory module
1994: Set up of EEMS as an independent services company
1995: EEMS becomes a supplier for IBM, Micron, Qimonda, STM and Nanya
2002: Ahead of its own customers, EEMS creates the capacity to process 300 mm silicon wafers
2004: Start of expansion into Asia
2005: Start up of production in Asia
2006: EEMS listed in the STAR segment of the Italian stock exchange
2007: Set up of Solsonica to produce photovoltaic cells and modules
2008: Solsonica obtains international certification CEI EN 61215 and 61730
2008: Start up of volume production of polycrystalline silicon cells and photovoltaic modules (initial installed capacity: 30 MW for cells, 40 MW for modules)
2008: After only one year, Solsonica modules are a big success in Italy, Germany and Spain.
2009: Production capacity increased to meet demand and new product development
2009: Transparent backsheet variations and new Frameless and Solrif versions developed to meet architectural integration requirements
2009: Set up of Kopernico, a joint venture with Espe Rinnovabili, to support large photovoltaic installation building and maintenance
2009: Set up of Solsonica Energia to design and develop photovoltaic installations
2009: Experimentation of technologies and materials for producing of new-generation cells and modules
2009: Solsonica modules also win over France, the UK and the Netherlands
2011: Solsonica becomes the biggest producer of cells and photovoltaic modules in Italy (source: 2011 Solar Energy Report Energy Strategy Group, Politecnico di Milano)
